A giant leap for Xbox owners
Next year starting from next November, the Xbox owners in United States of America, a revolution is set to happen. Thanks to the legal stand that Epic Games has taken against Google and Apple, they will be able to make purchases and play games in the Xbox app on their Android device – something, they couldn’t have done before.
Google has been on the back foot since December 2023 when it lost a monopoly case against American video game developer Epic Games. This loss proved to have the potential for application developers to incorporate their very own app store inside the android operating system. Later, a judge in the United States provided a permanent injunction on Google that will require the company to unlock the Play Store to app download alternatives even after the company’s announcement to appeal the decision.
“Epic’s verdict missed the obvious: Apple and Android are clearly in competition,” Google spokeswoman Lee-Anne Mulholland wrote in posting to her company’s blog. She further says that Google will appeal and seek the courts to stay the execution of the remedies as they work towards ensuring that in the legal process they provide users and developers with consistent and secure experience.
Microsoft is exploiting this situation to promote its pawns.
At the same time, Microsoft has used this judgment to enable gamer to buy Xbox games on Android devices. The latter will be able to stream the games through the Xbox Cloud Gaming service afterwards.
“The court’s decision to open Google’s mobile store in the United States will allow for more choice and flexibility,” Xbox president Sarah Bond said on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
