When all the information can be reconstructed from a simple photo, creating a realistic video imitation, or just copying the user’s voice, if not the thoughts, then the principle of privacy becomes the most valuable property of electronic devices. It was now in danger but now it is in very serious danger.
Approximately in May last year we learned that the Spanish Government was seeking to introduce a law that would prohibit the use of end-to-end encryption in communication applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram or Messages. Okay, but this time the danger is even higher.
Central European Intelligence – Europol has recently announced new policies and strategies to combat crime and keep the population safe and secure – the main of them is to prohibit the use of secure protocols for end-to-end encryption in messenger and social networking applications.
Opinions begin to change, the right to privacy may soon become history.
Europol advocates for the abolishment of end-to-end encryption to enable fight crimes associated with sexual coercion, drug cartel, murder and paedophilia. On the other hand, this security system found in apps such as WhatsApp Messenger, Telegram, or iMessage, for example, offers the additional layer of privacy in a time when our data is not safe.
Catherine De Bolle, Executive Director of Europol, said that urgent action is needed to stop crime on the Internet:Catherine De Bolle, Executive Director of Europol, said that urgent action is needed to stop crime on the Internet:
‘Crime is seeping into our homes and making our homes more dangerous than our streets’ – this is according to the Basic Shield study. In order to ensure safety of the society as well as our own people, this digital space of interaction has to be secured. These tech companies have a moral obligation to build a safer online space for police officers to perform their duties. When the evidence gathering skill is removed from the police our society will not be able to save people from getting involved in crime.
You’ve talked a lot about end-to-end encryption, what do you think? : Would you like to share the messages with the police?
