The presidential executive order allows TikTok to come back online after an unexpected suspension.
After leaving the United States TikTok returned
On the weekend TikTok stopped operating without notice in the United States. The outage occurred because ByteDance needed to sell TikTok to U.S. owners to escape a shutdown order. TikTok faced uncertainty because US companies needed to stop using and letting others distribute the app. Because the government offers no firm assurances TikTok chooses to pause operations which might hurt 170 million users and 7 million small businesses.
The president makes necessary immediate choices
President Donald Trump plans to use executive authority to stop enforcing the upcoming law against TikTok. He wanted TikTok to return shortly because American users wanted to use it on inauguration day. Before the order took effect Trump told companies they would keep their support for TikTok safe. After receiving these promises TikTok began reinstating its features ahead of the app’s full release in app stores.
Political tensions still present
Different political leaders remain against allowing services to continue operating today. Senator Tom Cotton warns Republican voters that the Chinese communist government controls the popular app TikTok. The government official expressed that companies backing TikTok could get sued as a result. People remain worried about their digital privacy because of ByteDance’s relationship with Chinese authorities.
Towards a lasting solution?
The company stated it wants to find a permanent solution with President Trump to keep TikTok running in the US. According to Trump’s plan one option entailed establishing a partnership that gave American investors a 50% stake in the operation. The agreement may help prevent conflict while protecting users and small companies who use TikTok for their work. The two companies need to work out many issues before TikTok can keep operating in America.
