Broken promises
The innovation that was to revolutionise traffic and transport system in Las Vegas through a system of tunneling beneath the city’s surface by one of Musk’s affiliate companies, The Boring Company was not as expected. As promised as Futuristic and self-driving transport system worthy of the Tron movie series it ended only to constructing normal tunnels where normal Teslas run errands and doesn’t address the traffic congestions of the city.
Repeated incidents
Moreover, there are cases of occurrences within these tunnels. An FOIA filed by Fortune to Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority revealed that between 2022 and now, there have been 67 trespassing incidents and 22 further incidents of cars tailing Teslas in tunnels and stations. The Boring Company also has its Monthly Statistic report which contains property damage, theft, technical difficulties, injuries, and close calls.
Some of them involved: A skateboarder had found the way to the passenger pickup station An offender was caught dozing off at the station Another one was caught sleeping at the station Yet another offender attempted to steal a license plate reader. In all such cases, security personnel from The Boring Company had to intervene, though it was not that all of them were formally compiled to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.
Unsafe working conditions
There were issues at the construction phase of the system as well: the building of tunnels. According to Fortune interview of former members of the construction team, the working conditions of these teams were dangerous and could be described with such phrases as ‘we were employed to gamble with death’. Within the six months , to the OSHA authorities the company recorded 36 accidents, they comprised of heat exhaustion, bruises, crushed hands and elbows. One report even mentioned that 15 to 20 employees were burnt due to the chemicals that were accelerating during work in the tunnels.
Persistent hope
Nevertheless, several such mishaps have happened in the past and the city of Las Vegas and Clark County has faith in expansion of this transportation system as promised by The Boring Company.
