Informations reveal that Tech goliath, Samsung, might soon start a gaming division if it is to launch a foldable handheld gaming console. This might disrupt the existing mobile gaming scene which is already has given a boost with devices such as the current PC gaming handheld Steam Deck.
Return of portable gaming
Portable gaming has come back from the shadows it was sent to for a while. As for the Portable system, PS Vita’s poor performance has paved way for a new generation of handheld console with the release of Steam Deck, Asus ROG Ally X, PlayStation Portal among others. Meanwhile, trying to become a portable console, phones succeeded, thanks to inventions like Asus ROG Phone 9 and the best phone controllers. Supposedly, Samsung see its future in the gaming market and is going to create a dedicated device.
This is as good a future competitor as any one would wish to confront in the future.
Samsung has only recently initiated the Vulkan driver for Linux in Xclipse, while Valve is to introduce ARM support to SteamOS soon. According to these words, seen by Android Police, Samsung may release a collapsible handheld game device. Also, the WIPO patent that Samsung filed also reveals that the company may be working on a foldable device with two joysticks. While the understanding of patents may not be conclusive all these clues lend credence to the hypothesis of Samsung entering into the game console market.
A booming market
In case that Samsung has plans to get involved in the handheld market, then, maybe, foldable screen will give it a paramount edge. Speculations indicate that the new portable PlayStation is on its way and next year’s Nintendo Switch 2 will be a real contender.
However, this information should be taken with caution. There is nothing concrete for now, but if these rumors are confirmed, it will be interesting to see if Samsung manages to make a place for itself among the best portable consoles.
