Inside view of the future of Android smart phones
As I have mentioned above, the next week will be interesting for those who are in interested in the future performance of new Android-based smartphones. That is why Apple’s main supplier of the processors that it uses in most of its top Android devices today, Qualcomm, will host its technology conference starting from Monday, October 21.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Overview
Later this year Qualcomm effectively announced the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 would be unveiling in its annual conference during the October. It also could be noted that according to information provided on the official website of the Snapdragon Summit, the next generation of Snapdragon chips is actually expected in the course of the following week. Well, it is high time that we found out what exactly Qualcomm has been up to and where it is taking the smartphone performance from here.
High stakes for Qualcomm
The stakes are clearly high for Qualcomm and its next mobile chipset. New chip releases from the chipmaker look impressive not just in performance but also in efficiency, the last year’s snapdragon 8 gen 3 has performed impressively even better than the apple’s A16 bionic and A17 Pro chips. The A18 chips integrated into devices released this fall’s iPhone 16 models further proved Apple’s advantage in general performance, as shown by benchmark exams carried out by Geekbench 6. Yet, the Android devices with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 generate higher frame rates than the newest iPhones in the key graphics benchmarker.
Almost everything said on the next Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 comes from speculations and benchmark results – in this case, there is no truth in it. But it does make a guess as to what Qualcomm could have in its arsenal for next week’s technology conference. These are Oryon CPU, Adreno 8-series GPU and LPDDR5 Rear with Memory size, Operating frequency and Device interface. That is, leaked test results would demonstrate markedly improved performance compared with prior generations of Snapdragon chips.
That brings us to the next question – which phones will be using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4?
As it has been the tradition that previous Snapdragon Summits, the official announcement of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will have companies publicly stating which of their future phones will be using the chip. These are brands that could be affected include Samsung, OnePlus among others. However, we will probably have to wait for the launch of these new smartphones to get more exact data.
More that are expected to be announced at the Snapdragon Summit
Other than the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 that targets downstream phones, Qualcomm has already signaled that there will be another launching this week. This could be the reveal of chips for connected cars and the smart vehicles it produces, or an update on the company’s augmented reality and virtual reality initiatives.
