Instagram launches a new video editing app
Adam Mosseri, the director of Instagram, recently announced the imminent arrival of a new free video editing application: Edits. The news shared on Threads excited many content creators.
An alternative to CapCut
Users first connected Edits to CapCut when they realized it looked like TikTok’s mobile editing tool. Faced with these connections, Mosseri described Edits as “like CapCut, but more for creators than casual videographers.”
Edits: A range of creative tools
Edits offers a wide range of creative tools, from high-quality recordings to shareable drafts, analysis of your Reels performance, and an “inspiration card.” Users who prefer editing videos on their phones will find this tool meets all their editing needs.
Availability and expectations
You can place a pre-order for Edits right now through the App Store on your iOS device. The head of instagram confirmed that an Android version of the app “will be ready soon”. In his speech he stated that the app launch would be unfinished and requested users to wait until the launch is complete. One benefit of using this app stands out from other tools because it adds no watermark to exported content.
According to Mosseri user skepticism about the timing was unfounded because Threads engineering began several months ago. He explained that Edits would give users access to additional editing features compared to CapCut.
We will see if this new app can draw creators to use it effectively and compete with existing options.
