A delay for Samsung’s XR headset
While the company has been talking about its XR headset since 2024, it has recently stated that the release of Samsung’s headset will happen in 2025. This news alters the layouts introduced first by this South Korean firm last year.
A design disclosed in a context of a patent application
The members of the 91Mobiles team observed that there was a patent application on WIPO database in recent past. This patent shows a headset design like the Apple Vision Pro or Meta Quest 3 provide.
The design which is shown in the drawings however seems to be less rich in depth as compared to other Models. Whether Samsung will be the first to develop a slimmer headset it yet to be seen.
Despite this roller coaster ride of results, there are still teches that the technical specifications remain uncertain.
We see two circles for the eyes, the front of the headset might contain SSD, RAM, and Processor. Samsung has a controller while in Vision Pro, it is an individual device in itself.
In terms of the visual, the patent claims that the movements in the head set work with regard to the reference points of the virtual space and the real space for the navigation and operation of the head set. As for this, the helmet would encode your range of vision.
On the other hand, it is not clear from the patent what kind of screen could be mounted on the helmet. The new type could be an LCD or an OLED display. The current design implies that the interface is similar to that of Apple headset; the user is able to operate through the virtual environment such as menus and icons.
And smart glasses as a bonus?
Samsung’s filing also mentions the use of an XR headset, though that’s not the solitary device in question here. In fact, the document also talk about a pair of smart glasses, refer to it as a ‘wearable device for displaying visual objects’.
In short, it seems that Apple is about to enter the world of the smart home. Only time will tell if these rumors are true and if the Apple brand will manage to make a place for itself in this very competitive market.
