Bluesky built “Trending Videos” to match TikTok’s approach by displaying currently popular video content.
Bluesky enters the vertical video competition
Other social media platforms stepped into new markets when TikTok experienced difficulties. Bluesky released its “Trending Videos” mobile feature as a competitor to TikTok’s vertical video tools.
Bluesky’s new feature
In an announcement on its app, Bluesky said, “We also needed to get into video action – Bluesky now has custom streams for video!” Users gain control of their display by adding feed selections to their Start screen. To access the feature I simply tapped the search button on my Android phone. The new section shows trending videos and allows you to view more short videos including TikTok content by tapping the button.
Platform operators employ algorithms to deliver content while addressing market competition from other services.
The video suggestion algorithm for Bluesky’s TokTik-style views remains undisclosed. The company tells users to restart the app when this feature fails to load.
Various development teams are designing alternate TikTok services that implement the same AT technology as Bluesky. Three applications known as “Tik,” “Skylight” and “Bluescreen” remain in private testing phase.
The race for vertical video
Platform X started vertical video features since TikTok exit from US app availability. Instagram launched their new video editing app “Edits” targeting TikTok’s popular “CapCut.” Social platforms fight harder for users and vertical videos mark a new battle front.
